MMC Capsules for DPA Pencil Microphone
MMC2006 Twin Diaphragm Omni Capsule
The MMC2006 is a linear omnidirectional microphone capsule. The distinctive sound is well balanced. This capsule bridges the gap between the extreme sound quality of the pencil microphones and our well-known miniature microphones in the lavalier and headset series. Inside this capsule, two opposing miniature capsules are custom-built. They are placed in a double-diaphragm, single-capsule configuration. This combines the advantages of small capsules with the lower self noise of a larger diaphragm area. These capsules provide fast transient response and wide frequency bandwidth.
Comparisons with its big brother, the iconic MMC4006 capsule, are inevitable. The relationship between the two can be clearly heard. The MMC2000 series performs as well as more exclusive microphones. It is a premium-class mic capsule and redefines the term value for money.
MMC2011 Twin Diaphragm Cardioid Capsule
The MMC2011 is a directional microphone capsule. The distinctive sound of this microphone is well balanced.

MMC4006 Omni Capsule
The MMC4006 is a linear omnidirectional mic capsule. There is no other mic in the world as lauded as it is.
This microphone offers total transparency in any recording situation. It picks up incredible detail and depth of sound. The definition of its high-frequency characteristics across a wide range of instruments is impressive. It offers natural sound, high sensitivity, low noise-floor and extremely linear frequency response from 10 to 20 kHz (±2 dB).
MMC4011 Cardioid Capsule
The main attraction of the MMC4011 cardioid microphone capsule is its directivity and attention to detail. This mic makes everything sound like the original. The first-order cardioid pickup pattern provides excellent separation between sound sources. It is equally at home miking acoustic guitars, grand pianos, overheads, percussion, wind instruments and vocals as it is spot miking symphonies. It can handle incredibly high sound levels.
A flat on-axis frequency response and excellent phase response provide a faithful reproduction of the original sound. The off-axis response is similarly flat, so any leakage is an accurate reflection of the original, albeit attenuated according to the true first-order cardioid pickup pattern.
MMC4015 Wide Cardioid Capsule
If you are already a fan of the 4011 series, DPA's wide cardioid microphones are an exciting alternative. The MMC4015 wide cardioid microphone capsule has a different polar pattern and is the perfect fill-in between an omnidirectional and a more directional microphone. The off-axis characteristics of the MMC4015 are completely linear, a unique quality when it comes to authentic sound reproduction. Any leakage from off-axis sound sources is still a faithful reproduction of those sounds, just gently attenuated.
Sometimes a conventional cardioid just isn't open enough. When recording orchestras or other ensembles, a compromise may be required between the need to blend in room reverberation and the need for more precise localisation. When recording instruments with complex dispersion patterns, the wide cardioid pattern covers a wider angle and is an excellent choice.
MMC4017 Shotgun Capsule
This condenser microphone capsule is part of our range of pencil microphones. It has a highly directional hypercardioid polar pattern, achieved using a supercardioid design with an interference tube that provides excellent off-axis rejection.
The MMC4017 shotgun microphone capsule is completely immune to RF emissions, and the 19mm condenser cartridge is capable of handling peak SPLs of 152dB before clipping.
Used in conjunction with the MMP-B preamplifier, the capsule provides a short and exceptionally lightweight shotgun microphone with impressive accuracy, clarity and musicality.
MMC4018 Supercardioid Capsule
The MMC4018 has a highly directional supercardioid pickup pattern with a smooth and flat off-axis frequency response. The supercardioid pattern is frequency-independent, ensuring an identical sound colour all around the microphone. The rear-lobe characteristic of most supercardioids is minimised in this capsule. This makes it much more isolated, with no sudden frequency-dependent peaks and dips.
The MMC4018 supercardioid microphone capsule is designed for a wide range of long-range broadcast, ENG and film miking applications, such as booming, dialogue, interview and table or podium use, and offers excellent flexibility through modular accessories. It is also ideal for use as a spot or pendant microphone for orchestral recording situations.
Most of DPA pencil mic solutions allow you to mix and match the different mic capsules together with the preamps so you can create the right solution for your specific situation.
Capsules range from omnidirectional to supercardioid, so there is a pickup pattern for every type of performance. DPA has a range of preamplifiers in different sizes and shapes to make the solutions as flexible as possible.
