RME has released a new beta version of DigiCheck NG - and it's a doozy! DigiCheck NG 0.92 Beta 2 brings the long awaited VU meters for even more precise level control. This public preview for MacOS and Windows offers audio professionals and enthusiasts an improved way to monitor their mixes.

What are VU meters and why are they important?

VU (Volume Unit) meters are a standard tool in audio technology for displaying the subjective loudness of an audio signal. Unlike peak meters, which show short-term peaks, VU meters react more slowly and therefore better reflect the perceived volume level. This is particularly important when assessing the dynamics and 'sound' of a mix.
